In My Dreams pt. 2
Me: Hi Brian Wilson.
Brian Wilson: Hi Barton. I really enjoy your melodies. You've got a good ear for this kind of stuff - it comes from an appreciation of jazz and showtunes which I know we share.
Me: Yeah, I love Gershwin in particular. Rhapsody in Blue is my favorite piece of all time and it's the reason I play the piano.
Brian Wilson: Mine too, mine too. Just keep at it. You've got your whole life ahead of you. Don't sweat the small stuff. And don't worry about taking time off and going to the beach when you need to. Don't let anyone tell you you're nuts or overly ambitious or bipolar or crazy or anything like that - you only are if you believe it! So just take it easy, and don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy.
Me: Wasn't that an Eagles song?
Brian Wilson: Yeah, I know a lot of people think they're not so hot but I don't mind them.
Me: Haha. Thanks Brian Wilson.
morning thoughts about nazi black metal bands and hotel california

you can tell with near certainty
from the acoustic guitar intros
that you find sometimes
in some of the songs on albums
by nazi black metal bands
that the guitarists

used to listen to the eagles

there is something sad and lonesome
in the near-total certainty
that the guitarists of the nazi black metal bands
liked the eagles when they were kids
back when they were kids
listening to the eagles.

The single from The Dirty Projectors’ upcoming album Swing Lo Magellan

This marks a pretty new direction for The Dirty Projectors, which creatively is really all Dave Longstreth. My favorite and perhaps weirdest thing they’ve done is their 2005 album The Getty Address, which is a sort of glitchy rock opera combining lo-fi and hi-fi recordings done in various settings with tons of different musicians which loosely tells a semi-fictional story about Don Henley, drummer and lead singer for the Eagles.

Apparently, there’s an animated film based on it:
