The Spotted Lakes of British Columbia
The lake appears to be a normal one during fall, winter, and a small portion of spring; but during the summer, most of the lake becomes evaporated. Dozens upon dozens of crater-like mineral deposits rest at the bottom of the lake and become visible during the warm weather. The mineral deposits span about 25 feet on average and contain many different concentrations of magnesium sulfate, and calcium/sodium phosphates, which gives them a distinct yellow, orange, green, or blue color.

The world is an artist’s palette.
I bet Robert Smithson would have gotten a kick out of this.
A phenomenon akin to that great concentric-ring street ice I encountered a few years ago in terms of natural, colorful beauty… a sort of naturally occurring Kenneth Noland/Robert Smithson collaboration. If I have nothing to do this weekend I’ll write more about the idea.

Still mystifying how I came to be involved in this.
I don’t even understand. How did I end up in this video? Go to 3:45. That’s me, trollin’ a troll on the Venice Beach boardwalk.

Great chord analysis.
Song of the Day: The Beach Boys - Keep An Eye On Summer. This is a real pretty song and all, but there’s a few twists that keeps it from being simple. There are a huge amount of Beach Boy tunes that use Doo-Wop chord progressions and this is one of them. This song goes from G, down to Em7 up to Am and down to D9. This would work fine and be a good song but Brian Wilson constantly adds strange discorded twists to his songs. There’s always a dark cloud blocking the sunlight, and this comes in at the end of each chorus. It goes up into a minor and ends on an unsettling F9. Just a little bit of Brian Wilson’s genius, and that concludes your lesson for today.

I am once more and foreseeably for the final time breaking my self-imposed ban on use of GIFs to share some important news with you.
According to LeakedIn, my LinkedIn password was NOT one of the many leaked!
And further good news: I will spending the summer writing music scores for movies in the advanced film scoring program at UCLA!

Through some strange internet coincidences I recently became vaguely acquainted with a member of this Austrian synth quartet. Here they are covering a Donna Summer song. I have few to no words to describe how amazingly awesome, vaguely terrible, and wholly wonderful this video is.

A quick jaunt down memory lane of my nearly year-old summer in San Francisco. Took lots of photos, but given the eminent release of The Spinto Band’s new album in May 1st, posting these music- and Spinto-related pics first. Most of these are from the studio I got to work in with them on Jonathan Mann’s Song A Day: The Album project in June 2011.
