The Beach Boys - God Only Knows (1966)
Beautiful song from a beautiful album sung by a beautiful voice belonging to Carl Wilson. There’s this great video from (I think) the early eighties in which Brian actually sings his brother’s song, for perhaps the first time live, as Carl was on a solo tour. I’ll try to queue it up later.

You are not alone.

Song of the Day: The Beach Boys - Don’t Worry Baby. This is Brian Wilson’s attempt to match his favorite Phil Spector song “Be My Baby”. From a more technical standpoint, his key changes are perfect. You know this because It’s really hard to pin down where they happen. His melody in the opening verse goes from on the beat to syncopated (on the “up” beat) and slows down doing it. And it’s just so damn pretty.
Not to mention one of the first times in pop music a hit song didn’t have all root notes in the bass.

The Apples in Stereo covering the Beach Boys’ “Heroes and Villains”
The Apples for obvious reasons have great appreciation for the Beach Boys. There’s this amazing, heartfelt, but incredibly awkward interview Robert Schneider once did with Brian Wilson. I’ll see if I can find it.

This is the sweetest, saddest, most tactful and completely creative way I have ever seen or could possibly even imagine in any scenario, fictional or real, a couple break up.
Take care.

| Me: | Hi Brian Wilson. |
| Brian Wilson: | Hi Barton. I really enjoy your melodies. You've got a good ear for this kind of stuff - it comes from an appreciation of jazz and showtunes which I know we share. |
| Me: | Yeah, I love Gershwin in particular. Rhapsody in Blue is my favorite piece of all time and it's the reason I play the piano. |
| Brian Wilson: | Mine too, mine too. Just keep at it. You've got your whole life ahead of you. Don't sweat the small stuff. And don't worry about taking time off and going to the beach when you need to. Don't let anyone tell you you're nuts or overly ambitious or bipolar or crazy or anything like that - you only are if you believe it! So just take it easy, and don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy. |
| Me: | Wasn't that an Eagles song? |
| Brian Wilson: | Yeah, I know a lot of people think they're not so hot but I don't mind them. |
| Me: | Haha. Thanks Brian Wilson. |

Confession 412.
I only just now found out that Bruce sang and did vocal arrangements on Pink Floyd’s The Wall album!
Whoa, I did not know this! And I’m a big Bruce fan, compared to others. Love Disney Girls (1957).
